A teenage Gypsy Queen has lost loses her crown within days of winning because she was too young to take part. Now her mother is seeking compensation.
The jury of the contest elected 15 years old Brigitta Botos as Miss Gypsy of Hungary on April 26, but two days later the organization disqualified her because she was under 16.
T?nde Zsuzsa Budai, the runner up in the beauty contest, was announced the new winner.
Mrs Andras Botos, mother of the deposed Brigitta, complained about the way the contest had been run and held organizers responsible for having disturbed their "peaceful everyday life and caused a deep emotional shock to Brigitta".
She is also very upset about the way they notified her daughter about the misunderstanding, saying the manager of the contest and director of National Gipsy Information and Cultural Center phoned them "while we were still celebrating the success of Brigitta", to say they had to send the crown back to Budapest.
She said there was no apology for the "harm" caused to the family and that they should be compensated somehow.
"Apart from my daughter, other girls were disqualified after the competition. We had no intention to cheat but they never told us the requisites. We even filled the applicationform the very same day of the competition showing her birth certificate, but nobody checked her age."
Organizers of the Miss Gypsy contest were not available.
