SUBJECT: Bobigny Forced Eviction
Dear Excellences,
We are double concerned about the situation of Roma people living in France, moreover after the shameful eviction in Bobigny on 21st October 2014. On 21 October more than 300 Roma people living in the informal settlement of Bobigny were forcibly evicted. Only about 130 were offered any alternative housing solution. More than 100 people left the settlement before the eviction. Police pressured the others to leave the municipality of Bobigny shortly after the eviction. On 22 October at 1am, about 60 prople, including 15 children and infants, were eventually offered temporary shelter in a gymnasium by the local council of the 10th discrict of Paris. However, they will not be allowe to stay more than two nights in the gymnasium.
We call urgently on the French authorities to repair immediately to this unbelievable violation of human rights and to offer an adequate alternative housing solution to the evicted families and children. We call on the representatives of the City of Paris and State representatives involved in the meeting of this afternoon, because the current situation regarding those 59 evicted people is not supportable any longer and we will not accept any kind of solution that will not end with a lasting re-housing for everyone.
Best Regards,
