Frankfurt a. M. / Germany (RNC Correspondent) 24.12.1996
The 23 year old Roma male Trifu Stancu born with the desease Trisomie21 (Mongolism) died on Christmas Eve. As a result of his ailment he was dependant on the Sozial Station, Social Services and regular medical treatment and assistance. The required medical certificate neccessary to enable him to receive regular medical treatment was refused as was the social services and was reduced to the absolute minimum (emergency). This kind of treatment by the powers that be concerning Roma is mostcertainly not uncommon.Trifu Stancu´s last wish was to be buried by his father´s grave inRomania All efforts of the Roma Union Frankfurt e.V. in thethe past week to obtain travel documents for the family of the deceased to attend the funeral in Romania and who are reident in Frankfurt have been in vain. The alleged reason for the refusal of travel documents for the deceased´s family in that the said persons imigration Status are under examinationba the authorities in Frankfurt. Indeed! The only way in which the documents could be obtained is if the family of the deceased were to agree not return to Germany. Under the present circumstances, is not even certain that the Bucarest authorities would be prepared to receive the body of the deceased and even less certain if they would allow or organise the burial.
