Mainz / Germany (RNC Agency) 26.06.1996

The Central Office of the German Cinti and Roma together with other minority group representatives are demanding a law which prohibits discrimination in the press and in the Municipal Council Legal administration. According to a spokesman from a press conference in Mainz, it is expected that Kurt Reck Minister President (SPD) Rheinland-Phalz will bring up the subject at the next Media-Political conference of Government heads.

The aim is to place under legal liability the Press and Municiple authorities to refrain from making know the ethnic identity of offenders accused of punishable offences. Romani Rose, Chairman of the Central Office of the German Cinti and Roma said: This is justifiably compelling to obviate false references and stigmatisation by unqualified persons. This demand is supported also by: The Danish Minority organisation(Flensburg) The Lausitz Sorben Alliance (Bautzen) and The FriesianCouncil (Bredstedt).
