Annulment Of ‘‘Gypsy’’ Decision Demanded

Düsseldorf / Germany (RNC Agency) 15.11.1997

The four national minorities in Germany asked the political parties in the state government of NRW to cancel the ‘‘gypsy’’ judgement of the court in Bochum. In a legal decision in September 1996 the judges agreed with a landlord, who had refused taking a R oma as subtenant. The judge has spoken about gypsies who could not be acceptable as tenants. The chairman of the Danish, Fresian and Sorbian minorty as well as of the Sinti and Roma, asked for annulment of the Bochum judgement in a letter to minister presi dent Mr. Johannes Rau (SPD), and the fractions of SPD, CDU and Greens, because the ‘‘European Human Rights Committee’’ had refused to do so, now the parliament should be called into action.
