Sinti and Roma in France have demanded from the catholic church recognition of the fact that the church remained siltent during the persecution of their people by the Nazis. After the recognition of guilt by French bishops for their part during the persecu tion of the jewish, it would be unacceptable that no one commemorates the persecution and murder of Sinti and Roma. This was emphasized by the wellfare organisation for Sinti and Roma in a published declaration in Paris. It was remarkable that the episcopa lian declaration did not mention the huge number of interned Sinti and Roma by the Germans and their french helpers.
