Veteran jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli is in hospital in London after suffering heart failure and bronchial pneumonia last week, a family friend said on Tuesday.The friend told she did not know how seriously ill 88-year-old Grappelli was. The hospital declined comment. Grappelli was born in Paris on January 26, 1908. He made Europe's first truly original contribution to jazz when he paired up with Sinti/Roma guitarist Django Reinhardt to form the Hot Club de France Quintet in the 1930s.
