Indignation about racist remarks

Prague / Czech Rep. (RNC Correspondent) 05.07.1997

A Czech politician caused sensation throughout the country by racist remarks.

Senator Zdenek Klausner, at the same time mayor of a district in Prague which has a high Roma population had declared in newspaper to houseowners that it would be worthy of imitation to relocate ’’ some numerically problematic families ’’ out of the capita l.

On Friday senat president, Petr Pithart, condemned strongly Klausners remarks in a public declaration. They aimed for an ethnic purge. After Roma families, Pithart warned, other ‘‘problematic’’ people could be next, like seriously ill ones or those who do not fit within sexual norms. Other politicians also distanced themselves from Klausner.
