The SPD party has expressed agreement for setting up a European refugee commission. Such an Institution should European-wide coordinate the reception, sheltering and the repatriation of refugees. In a motion the Social Democrats demanded that the mandat of the European Refugee Commission should be based on Geneva Refugee convention and should supplement the work of the United Nations on a regional basis. The European Union should be able to offer protection to refugees against acts of violence and war. The SPD members Freimut Duve and Otto Schilly said last Wednesday in Bonn. This would only be possible if equally between the EU countries. The SPD called on the Government to initiatea creation of a refugee commission with partner countries and therefor forward an agreement to a European Refugee Shelter.
