UNO-Report: Racism is Being Spread Via Internet

Geneva / Switzerland (RNN Correspondent) 08.04.1998

Racial hatred and discrimination are increasingly spread through Internet. This is the result of the report of the UNO special correspondent for racism.

Racist groups use more and more the Internet to spread their propaganda, says Maurice Glele-Ahanhanzo, a jurist from Benin (Western Africa). This has to be stopped with united measurements of the international community.

Racist views are popular at a fearful rate. " Even though some countries have become aware of these problems, there are only few attempts to stop this trend", he says

"Altogether the situation has not changed much". Above all, the discrimination against black people, the racial hatred against Arabians, the anti-Semitism, and the discrimination against Roma and migrants are alarming". He positively mentioned Switzerland and Sweden, where racist propaganda by way of electronic media is explicitly made a punishable offence. Germany hat already been positively mentioned in the previous report.

Again, the UNO human rights activist asked for an international conference on racism, immigration, and human rights to combat the problems more effectively.
