5 Persons Injured in Emergency Accommodation

In a house where 40 refugees lived fire broke out in the top floor several persons were injure and taken to surrounding hospitals for emergency treatment. It was touch and go with one who was rescued from the roof of the building by a fireman on a revolving ladder,another was rescued in the most dangerous circumstances at the verylast minute. As a result of a fire-catastrophe in Lubeck on Wednesday, the West Deutsche Rundfunk reported that in many refugee homes that the firesafety precautions were catastrophic. An investigation by the TV programme `` Monitor `` and by several Country fire specialists which resulted from the Lubeck fire came to the conclusion that the conditions in many of the refugee homes were inhuman and degrading and that the fire-safety precautions were catastrophic. According to the TV ARD Magazine, in many of the refugee houses fire safety just does exist. Monitor reported an example in Linnich near Munich Glattbach of sever overcrowding, where the windows were metal-barred as in prison buildings, in addition to which, most of the wall fire-hydrants were in need of repair not to mention anoil-stove which was fixed to wood panelled wall. The exist were also blocked which would in the event of fire be a hindrance to those seeking escape. The fire specialist, Ernst Achilles described the former factor building as a death-trap.
